NIST Role

NIST has for many years been focused on developing metrics for the information technology industry. We develop freely available tests and diagnostic tools for building robust, interoperable, commercial solutions. Applying such tools early in the life cycle process helps industry determine whether its products conform to the recommendation, and ultimately, will interoperate with other products. In addition, the development and use of these metrology tools fosters thorough review of the recommendation, which will, in turn, aid in resolving errors and ambiguities.
